Her Story
25 Years Dedicated to Gentle Healing
Mary Monro graduated from the University College of Osteopathy (UCO) in 1999 as a mature student, earning the Silver Medal for clinical excellence — the highest award presented to an outstanding graduating clinician. Her route into osteopathy was born from a deep conviction that the body has remarkable capacity to heal when worked with gently and intelligently.
In 2009, Mary completed an MSc in Paediatric Osteopathy at the Osteopathic Centre for Children in London — one of the most rigorous and respected postgraduate qualifications in the field. This opened her practice to the full spectrum of paediatric care, from newborns with birth-related strain to teenagers managing growing pains and postural problems.
Mary undertook the Sutherland Cranial College of Osteopathy (SCCO) 250-hour Pathway, the gold-standard cranial osteopathy training programme, and has gone on to become a Fellow of the SCCO (FSCCO). She served as a Trustee of the SCCO from 2016 to 2022, contributing to the governance and direction of cranial osteopathic education in the UK.
Between 2018 and 2022, Mary was a member of the Institute of Osteopathy Communications Network, contributing to public-facing osteopathic communications and patient education. She holds biodynamic osteopathy training and continues to develop her practice through ongoing postgraduate learning.
As a BAPAM (British Association for Performing Arts Medicine) approved practitioner and OPACA member, Mary has developed a particular interest in performer health — working with musicians, dancers, singers and actors to prevent and recover from occupational injuries. She is also a Pelvic Partnership recommended practitioner.
"My approach is always gentle — I work with your body, not against it."
Mary teaches postgraduate osteopathy, with a focus on blood vessel function in relation to musculoskeletal conditions, and on Long Covid and chronic pain — a rapidly evolving area where her clinical insights have contributed meaningfully to the profession's understanding.
She previously practised in the Scottish Borders before making Edinburgh her home. She now works at Eyre Place Osteopathic Practice, a respected multi-practitioner clinic in the heart of the city, where she sees patients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly.
