Safe, Gentle Care from Birth
Important: If you have any concerns about the health of your child, please always consult your GP first. Osteopathy is a complement to, not a replacement for, medical care.
Mary holds an MSc in Paediatric Osteopathy from the Osteopathic Centre for Children, London (2009). She is DBS enhanced checked and holds an NSPCC Level 3 Safeguarding qualification. She has treated babies and children for over 25 years.
At your first appointment, Mary will ask about your child's complete history — from conception and pregnancy through labour and delivery. Every birth is different, and the story of your child's arrival matters.
If the pregnancy or birth was a difficult experience for you, this is an opportunity to tell your story. Many parents find this part of the appointment unexpectedly helpful in its own right.
What Can Osteopathy Help With?
Birth Strain
Compression from labour, forceps or ventouse delivery, or long and very fast births. Gentle release of retained moulding in the head and body.
Plagiocephaly
Flat or misshapen head from birth moulding or positional pressure. Gentle cranial treatment combined with tummy time advice.
Colic & Unsettled Sleep
Feeding difficulties, wind, digestive discomfort, irritability. Gentle treatment to relax the diaphragm and digestive system.
Growing Pains
Leg aches, joint pain, and muscle tension common in growing children. Gentle support through growth spurts.
Headaches & Nervous Tics
Recurring headaches, tension patterns, and nervous tics. Successful resolution of nervous tics documented in patient cases.
Developmental Support
Postural habits, sports injuries, and school-related tension. Osteopathy adapted to every stage of childhood development.
What to Expect in the Appointment
Mary asks for babies to be undressed to their nappy so she can check reflexes, skin tone, umbilical healing, belly softness and joint mobility. This full assessment ensures nothing is missed.
Treatments for babies can happen on the couch, in the parent's arms, or during feeding — whatever helps your baby feel most relaxed. Mary is experienced at adapting to the needs of both infant and parent.
With older children, treatment is usually carried out in clothing, with sensitivity around any need to examine the body. Mary explains everything clearly to both child and parent throughout.
Visual distractions — books, a favourite show — are available to help children feel at ease during treatment.
Parents are always present throughout treatment. Mary will explain everything she finds and what it means — you are never left wondering.
