Your First Visit

Everything you need to know before your first appointment with Mary.

Your initial appointment lasts up to one hour. It includes a full case history, physical examination, and treatment where appropriate. You will leave with clear guidance on what to do next.

What to Expect

What Happens

01

Case History

Mary discusses your reason for coming, your full medical history — mental and physical — medications, and family background. For babies: conception, pregnancy, labour and delivery details are all relevant. For complex histories, consider writing a brief timeline beforehand.

02

Examination

You may be asked to undress to underwear for a thorough postural and structural assessment, in standing, sitting, and lying positions. For babies: undressed to nappy, with reflex checks, skin tone, belly softness and joint mobility assessed. For children: usually clothed, always done sensitively.

03

Treatment

Gentle hands-on osteopathic work, usually lying down. Mary explains her findings as she works. Most patients find it deeply relaxing. If referral to a GP or another specialist is needed, Mary will advise you clearly.

04

Self-Help Advice

Personalised exercises, lifestyle modifications — desk posture, diet, sleep position — and clear guidance on what to expect in the days following treatment. You leave knowing what to do next.

Preparation

Before You Arrive

Set Your Goals

Think about what you want to achieve from treatment. Having a clear aim helps Mary tailor the session to what matters most to you.

Wear Comfortable Clothes

You may need to remove a layer or two for examination. Loose-fitting clothing is ideal — avoid anything tight or difficult to take on and off.

Bring Your Medications List

A repeat prescription sheet is ideal if you take multiple drugs. Knowing your current medications helps Mary build an accurate picture of your health.

Write a Timeline

For complex or long-standing histories, jot down a brief timeline of key events. It makes the case history conversation quicker and more thorough.

Book Your First Appointment
